Belly Shirts

Do you guys think it is okay if christian girls wear shirts that show their stomach?I was thinking about getting some.What do you think?

Personally, I don't think it's right. Most girls wear them to attract guys' attention... and God calls us to be modest. Showing off your stomach to everyone isn't modest, in my opinion. But then again, if you wear a bikini [which personally, I think is immodest], it's the same thing. Of course this is up to you.

But remember, "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." [1 Peter 3:3-4]

Modesty is something that is really important to me. This goes for tight clothes, low-cut shirts, bikinis, belly shirts, etc. Sure, they might be "hott" [on those girls who can pull them off Wink

], but God has called you and me to so much more than that. We don't need that kind of attention. Our beauty should start from the inside. But before I write a book on here, I'll just sum all this up by saying this. It all comes down to who we're trying to please... 1 Peter 3:4 says that inner beauty is of GREAT WORTH in God's sight. That means a lot if we're trying to please God in the way that we live.

ok i agree with what molly said but im sure most of the girls on here wear short shorts, and dont u think that should be included with the tightclothes, and bikinis and the other stuff u mentioned
??? dont u think that would draw a guys attention? im not saying its wrong im just making giving another thought to this thread.

I agree with Molly.

Also, if we are trying to attract guys, which we shouldn't be trying to do in the first place, at least not like that. We would most likely attract unChristian guys. Which is wrong. The Bible tells us not to be unequally yoked in one of the Corinthians. I'll look it up after work and find out the exact verse. Christian guys that I have talked to generally don't want to see a girls midrift or any of that simply because it causes them to lust and be unpure.

We as sisters in Christ need to help our brothers in their purity.

David,If you had a christian girlfriend and she had on a belly shirt and you were about to take her on a date would you make her change?It's not a problem as long as her breast are not out,right?

I don't know Paris.. As girls it is our job to help men in the walk with Christ. Sometimes we think that only certain parts of our bodies can be a turn on, but stomachs, legs, things we don't normally think off can make a guy stumble very quickly. We don't understand because for us it's kindness and sensitivity that's attracting but for guys it's different and we need to respect that. God said he gave women to men to be their help mates and we wouldn't be helping them very much by not leaving very much to their imagination. Also, even if your boyfriend was ok with seeing that much of you hopefully he wouldn't be ok with other men seeing you. It's just something to think about. I think modesty is just so important and you can be modest and beautiful. My best friends are great at that. Smile

Well Paris why don't you look at it this way... Why did you buy them? Why do you want to wear them? What will you get from wearing those that you wouldn't get from wearing a t-shirt? Just think about it and be honest with yourself for the answers to the questions and get back to us Emily

I agree with what other Emily said too. And those are GREAT questions to evaluate yourself with. Another thing I often think of, but then again not everyone is similar in being conscience of what they look like in front of anyone, is...Would I wear it if Jesus was with me. Which in reality, He is ALWAYS with you. Another one that makes me really think is, would I wear it if I were going on an outing with my pastor and his wife?

Okay, about that site. It is a link to a word type document, and its an overview/lesson about modesty. If you scroll to the very bottom pages you will see the Modesty Checklist. Print it out and put it on a full length mirror, or close to somewhere you get dressed. It's a good reminder when you are getting dressed to be modest and God-honoring.
